Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation presents message to the Global Commission on Adaptation
18 to 25 January 2021, the Global Center on Climate Adaptation organised a Climate Adaptation Week that took place in Groningen, Netherlands. The Center is the Netherlands-based secretariat for the Global Commission on Adaptation. In the framework of the Week, at a seminar organised to highlight and reinforce Climate adaptation in the Wadden Sea region, Wadden Sea Board Chair Karin Lochte gave a short video presentation on the values of the Wadden Sea and of our trilateral cooperation. She was invited by the Programma Rijke Waddenzee that initiated the seminar together with many other partners, among them the Provinces of Groningen and Fryslân, Green NGOs and the Global Center on Climate Adaptation.
During her presentation, Lochte highlighted the importance of the international dimension of the Wadden Sea and to join forces. She addressed the values of the shared transboundary World Heritage site, the joined approach of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation in the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, the ongoing Climate Vulnerability Assessment and the worldwide outreach, e.g. within the UNESCO marine site managers programme, the Wadden Sea Flyway Initiative and trilateral research.
The results of the seminar, including the message by Lochte, were presented to Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management and the Dutch member of the Global Commission on Adaptation, who promised to hand them over to the international partners in the Commission during a panel at the end of the week with Chair of the Global Commission, Ban-Ki-Moon.
